CHAPTER V.

COMMITTEES

 

Section A – Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee shall be comprised of the Immediate Past President, the President, the President-Elect, the Vice-President, the Secretary and the Treasurer. The President serves as the Executive Committee Chair. The Executive Committee meets periodically to review programmatic and financial matters, and to deal with urgent situations that cannot wait for the next meeting of the membership.

With the exception of the Executive Committee, committees or advisory committees may not act on behalf of the Association.

 

Section B – Nominating Committee.

The Executive Committee shall appoint a Nominating Committee consisting of three (3) active members of the Association, the chairperson of which shall be the Immediate Past-President. The Nominating Committee will annually propose a slate of officers for the Association. Unless declined by the individual(s) selected, it is anticipated that the Secretary will succeed the Vice-President, the Vice-President will succeed the President-Elect, and the President-Elect will succeed the President. If proposed by the Nominating Committee, the Treasurer may succeed into the annual slate of officers as Secretary after the expiration of his/her three-year term of office, or the Treasurer may be proposed by the Nominating Committee to serve additional three-year terms. The Treasurer is eligible to serve a maximum of four (4) consecutive three (3)-year terms, unless this provision is waived by a two-thirds (2/3rds) majority vote of the members present and voting at the annual meeting at which this vote is being taken.

 

Section C – Bylaws Committee.

The Executive Committee shall appoint a Bylaws Committee consisting of three (3) active members of the Association. The Bylaws Committee shall maintain the Bylaws, advise the membership of appropriate wording for all proposed amendments, and initiate such amendments.

 

Section D – Awards Committee.

The Executive Committee shall appoint an Awards Committee, with membership limited to at least two past Association Presidents. The purpose of this committee is to ensure that, each year, the Association takes time to consider the contributions of its members. Annually, the Awards Committee will present the outgoing President with a plaque at the conclusion of this officer’s term. Any other individuals to be considered for an award will be recommended only by the Awards Committee to the Executive Committee if unusual service or circumstances warrant this consideration. Association awards may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Linda Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award: This award should be presented to an Association member whose service, commitment and contributions to the Association and/or to the oral healthcare community over the term of his or her Association membership warrant special recognition. A recipient of this award must have been an Association member for at least five (5) consecutive years prior to his/her recognition.
  • Diamond Award: This award should be presented to an Association member whose leadership shines with passion and whose contributions to the Association and/or oral healthcare community are innovative and move the Association’s mission forward.

 

Section E – Advisory Committees.

The Executive Committee may create one or more advisory committees or other advisory bodies (e.g., task forces) and appoint active members of the Association, or such other persons as it deems necessary, to these advisory committees or bodies as may be determined at the time by the Executive Committee.
